Denise Richards has been slammed by furious fans after disregarding health and safety guidelines while boarding a flight in the United States on Sunday.
Precautionary advice from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warns anyone travelling in, out and across the US to wear a protective covering across their nose and mouth during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
But Richards, 50, opted to cover her face with a coat while travelling by plane over the weekend, and her subsequent Instagram post prompted understandable outrage from followers on social media.

Sharing a selfie of her mask-free face, the Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills star justified: ‘Anyone that is upset that I [am] not wearing a mask. I’m hiding under a hoody amd [sic] a huge winter coat. Please. Thicker than any mask!!!!!!’
Denise is believed to have travelled from Oklahoma, where there are currently not any mask mandates, to California, where masks are mandatory.
More than 806,000 American citizens have lost their lives to COVID-19 since the global outbreak was declared a pandemic in March 2020, from an average 51.1million recorded cases across the country.
With new variant Omicron currently wreaking havoc in the US, it is still mandatory for travellers to protect themselves and others by wearing face coverings at all times while occupying space on any mode of public transport.

All passengers on public conveyances (e.g., airplanes, ships*, ferries, trains, subways, buses, taxis, ride-shares) traveling into, within, or out of the United States (including U.S. territories) as well as conveyance operators (e.g., crew, drivers, conductors, and other workers involved in the operation of conveyances), regardless of their vaccination status, are required to wear a mask over their nose and mouth. Unless otherwise required by the operator, or federal, State, tribal, territorial, or local government, people are not required to wear a mask when located in outdoor areas of a conveyance (if such outdoor areas exist on the conveyance).
