Families can save thousands of pounds by booking their summer holidays early, with some popular flights available for 75pc less.
Airlines are selling heavily discounted tickets for most of Britons’ favourite destinations – both long haul and short haul.
Governments around the world have reintroduced strict border controls and travel restrictions since the emergence of the omicron variant, derailing Christmas holidays and winter trips. But the rules have been relaxed over the summer months for the past two years, meaning early bookers for summer can expect more certainty.
A return ticket from London to Barcelona in July could set you back just £32, compared with the average £135 it cost in July 2019, according to Skyscanner, a flight comparison website.
Flights to other Spanish favourites, such as Malaga, Alicante and Tenerife, are available for less than half price, with more than £100 knocked off the fare.
Laura Lindsay, of Skyscanner, said there were simple tips that savvy travellers could use to find deals for summer 2022.
Early planning is crucial, as growing demand will push prices up when Britons start to think about their travel plans for the year. Look for airlines that offer flexible tickets and the ability to change bookings, in case plans are stymied by restrictions.
She said: “Mix and match airlines and departure airports to build a trip that is right for your schedule and budget. Set up price alerts to ensure you don’t miss out on low prices. Being flexible with dates and destinations will ensure you find the best deal, too.”
